General Introduction
The 9 of Swords is also a card about fear and anxiety. This time though, it is not so much fear of the future as with the eight, but more of a fear rooted in the present.
It would help if you could closely examine how you feel and determine exactly what it is that you fear. It’s easier to face a fear once you know exactly what it is and what’s causing it. If it’s something that you can change then change it and see if your fear diminishes at all.
It is also quite possible, perhaps even more likely, that other people in your life or other aspects of your life are contributing to the major part of your fear and anxiety. You may not have the power to directly change anything you see as a root cause but that doesn’t mean that there can’t be change. See what can be done to change the dynamics of the relationship(s), because even a small change could have a big effect on how you feel.
If there is nothing that can be done then try to hang in there. Take pleasure in the small things wherever you can and try not to fear the bigger things as best you can. This time will pass and you will feel better.
Friends and Family
It really doesn’t matter what is going on and how fearful you may be about its ramifications, as there is really nothing that you can do or say that is going to change much at all.
It’s not that you don’t care and it’s not that it’s not important because the truth is you do care. Very much. And it is important. The problem is that it is beyond your ability to fix.
With that in mind and hard as it may be to do, you need to take a mental step back and not make yourself ill with worry. Worrying about it will not change anything and will benefit no-one, least of all you.

Love and Relationships
The 9 of Swords is unlikely to be your friend if you are in a relationship. It usually appears when your intuition is warning you that something is not right and that all is not as it should be. If there is an aspect of your relationship that is troubling you, or there is something you think is unhealthy about it, or simply that you feel something is going on behind your back then you may well be right.
You will need to speak to your partner because you are not going to solve the issue any other way. It doesn’t automatically mean your relationship is doomed but it doesn’t automatically mean it will survive either.
If you have recently met someone who seems too good to be true then there is a chance that they are exactly that. If you haven’t yet met someone then the nine could be a warning relating to the next person you do meet. Whichever is the case don’t believe every word they say and don’t get carried away. It takes time to build trust so be cautious in the meantime and don’t give or lend them any money.
In this day and age of online and offline scammers you can’t be too careful.
Spiritual Growth
On the spiritual side of things the nine is saying that you need to slow down and give your stress levels time to recover. Modern life is stressful for sure but while you are stressed up to the eyeballs you are not going to make any progress spiritually.
Meditation will be your best friend right now if you allow it to be. If you have never meditated before and have no idea where to start then there are many books out there, and quite a few videos, and if they don’t help then consider taking some classes.
You need to still your mind and it will be worth the effort.
Work and Career
It is not the best of cards to see in a work related situation because it usually means that you are worried. You may be worried about keeping the job itself or it could be aspects of the job that are causing the problem. The 9 of Swords is telling you that some things are beyond your control so try not to worry about them. It’s not that they’re unimportant but if you can’t do anything about them you need to adopt a “que sera, sera” mentality.
Consider the aspects of your job that are within your control and focus positively on them instead. It may not make any difference to any outcome in the long run but at least you won’t have worried yourself sick in the meantime.
The 9 of Swords is somewhat more positive if you are looking for a job. It means you need to think positively and believe that it will happen even if your search has been long and unrewarding. Ask anyone you know well, and those you don’t know so well, and even people you chat to in passing whether they know of any job openings. You never know who it will be that has the knowledge you seek so don’t be afraid to ask.
Message from Spirit
Meditate. Meditate. Meditate. And then meditate some more.
