General Introduction

8 of Swords

The 8 of Swords is about fear, and usually fear of the future. Fear of the unknown, fear of getting it wrong, fear of getting hurt, are all fears that can inhibit your progress. Sometimes these fears are irrational and sometimes they’re not.

The future is not predestined and so it falls to you to try and make the best possible future for yourself that you can. You will not get it right every time and that’s a fact, but that’s alright because nobody ever does. Remember too, that every time you fail you learn something about what not to do next time.

If you do not leave yourself open to the possibility of failure then you do not leave yourself open to the possibility of success either. They go hand in hand almost everytime and if you don’t embrace that concept then the bright future you would like to see will never happen. Very little in life is a slam dunk so don’t let fear hold you back.

The chances are that the reality will be nowhere near as bad as your mind is trying to make you believe.

Friends and Family

When the 8 of Swords appears for family and friends it usually signifies that something is happening that you would rather not see. The trouble is that there is going to be very little that is constructive in nature that you can do about it.

Even though you are most probably only indirectly involved in this and even though it might be tempting for you to get directly involved you should avoid doing so.

It is very difficult when you see those you love and care for starting to take on all the characteristics of a train wreck waiting to happen. The thing you have to remember about a train in motion heading for a derailment is that if you stood in front of it for real you are not even going to slow it down for even a fraction of  a second.

And so it is with your situation here. Sometimes you have to just stand back and let the chips fall where they may.

Love and Relationships

The 8 of Swords is not the best of cards to see if you are in a relationship for it is calling upon you to do some re-evaluation. Are you one of those people that would rather be with anybody rather than be on your own? Or perhaps you think that the relationship you have is better than nothing?

The eight is telling you to think again and to consider just how good your relationship really is. Don’t stay with someone who is bad for you just because you fear being alone. You may not be as young and attractive as you once were, but that doesn’t mean that what you have is the best that you can hope for now.

Just because life is nothing like a Hollywood love story doesn’t mean that real love, more real than the Hollywood fiction isn’t out there. It is and it doesn’t matter how young or old you are it is there to be found. You will never know the joy of true love though, if you aren’t prepared to get out there and find it.

The 8 of Swords has a strong message for those of you still searching. It is telling you that if you are not happy being alone and simply being you then how do you expect someone else to be happy with the same you?

Don’t tell yourself you need someone in your life to “complete” you because that’s a cop out. You should be a whole individual in your own right not a half, and the person you want to find should be the same way. That way when the two of you get together and it’s right it’s a case of one plus one equals three.

Do the work you need to do to love yourself and be happy as you are. When you have achieved that and you no longer “need” someone else but simply “want” someone else you might be surprised just how fast love can turn up.

Spiritual Growth

Right now you might find yourself at something of a crossroads with no map and no GPS. Which way do you go? Left? Right? Ahead? What if one of those paths is a painful one? Perhaps you’d be better off staying where you are as that, at least, is fairly safe?

The 8 of Swords is here to tell you that staying put is not an option. If your own intuition isn’t telling you which way to go then keep your eyes and ears open. The Universe will give you signals to help. The signals may be subtle or they may not, but if you stay alert then sooner or later you will understand.

Work and Career

You have the power to change your situation if you’re not happy at work. The simple fact of the matter is you have choices that you can make. They may not always be the best choices but you do have them.

You can choose to find a new job and hence find somewhere doing something that will leave you feeling happier. If you are truly that unhappy where you are then that is the choice you should make.

Just how unhappy are you with where you are and how things are? It’s an uncertain world out there, so are you unhappy enough to risk the uncertainty of going to a new job? If you are not then you should choose to stay where you are.

But you can’t have it both ways. If you are not prepeared to move then stop moaning and acknowledge the fact that things are not as bad as you think. If they were then you’d move, wouldn’t you?

If the eight appears when you are looking for work then it could be that there are jobs available to you but you don’t want to take them. Perhaps you think they’re beneath you, or that the pay isn’t good enough, or the benefits suck etc.

Do you need to lower your sights and consider one of these jobs, and get back into the workforce at least in the short term? Would that be better than being unemployed?

If you’re not prepared to take what’s there that’s fine, you have that right. But don’t go around moaning that there aren’t any jobs. Because there are.
